Location:
Tyrrellspass is a Georgian village situated fifty miles west of Dublin on the main route to Galway (N6). Its midland location gives a central focus for tourists and travellers to break their journey, East-West, or North-South alike. It is situated in the lake district of Ireland; its lakes are particularly famous for trout fishing. On the shores of these lakes are situated some beautiful and historical sites, including Belvedere House, Lilliput and Mullingar Golf Club. The village has numerous sites of historical and architectural interest. The most important of these is the Castle situated at the west end. Opposite the Castle is St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church which was built in 1859. These sites contribute to the overall beauty of the village, which annually wins Tidy Towns Competitions, including a past European Architectural Heritage Award.

The main street of Tyrrellspass has many interesting old houses and some excellent shop fronts. At this end of the village there is an unusual water feature.

The Church of Ireland is a very imposing building which overlooks the green and the sculpture by Imogen Stuart which is a distinctive feature also adorns the green. Recently a new stone was erected commerating the life of the village from 1597-1997.

There are many literary works about the area which include - "Tyrrellspass - Past & Present" by Oliver Egan "Richard Tyrrell" by Jennifer Kelly "Family Favourites from Tyrrellspass" -a cookery book published by Tyrrellspass Development Association and a pictoral history of the village entitled "Hello Tyrrellspass" by Maree Kelly
