Location:
Tyrrellspass is a Georgian village
situated fifty miles west of Dublin on the main route to Galway (N6).
Its midland location gives a central focus for tourists and travellers
to break their journey, East-West, or North-South alike. It is situated
in the lake district of Ireland; its lakes are particularly famous
for trout fishing. On the shores of these lakes are situated some
beautiful and historical sites, including Belvedere House, Lilliput
and Mullingar Golf Club. The village has numerous sites of historical
and architectural interest. The most important of these is the Castle
situated at the west end. Opposite the Castle is St. Stephen's Roman
Catholic Church which was built in 1859. These sites contribute to
the overall beauty of the village, which annually wins Tidy Towns
Competitions, including a past European Architectural Heritage Award. |

The main street of Tyrrellspass has many
interesting old houses and some excellent shop fronts. At this end of
the village there is an unusual water feature.
The Church of Ireland is a very imposing building which overlooks
the green and the sculpture by Imogen Stuart which is a distinctive
feature also adorns the green. Recently a new stone was erected commerating
the life of the village from 1597-1997.
There are many literary works about the area which include - "Tyrrellspass
- Past & Present" by Oliver Egan "Richard Tyrrell" by Jennifer Kelly
"Family Favourites from Tyrrellspass" -a cookery book published by
Tyrrellspass Development Association and a pictoral history of the
village entitled "Hello Tyrrellspass" by Maree Kelly
